This weekend marks the beginning of the six-week art show of my oils and watercolors atThe Winery at Marjim Manor in Appleton, New York. The Niagara Wine Trail Wineries are hosting Art Weekend, August 18th and 19th and I am the featured artist at Marjim Manor. My husband and I traveled a portion of the Niagara Wine Trail on our anniversary, visiting a total of six wineries that day. Of the six we visited, Marjim Manor was by far the most beautiful in my opinion. It is situated near Lake Ontario in a beautiful fruit farming community. Owned by Margo...

In my photography and painting, it is the magic of light and shadow I love most and hope most to capture and communicate. When I look at life outside our livingroom window, or driving down a country road, or as I wait on the bank of the river by our cottage while my husband mows the lawn, I see bits and pieces of light at times that cause me to catch my breath because in those fleeting moments of perfect light I see God. Thank you to everyone who gave me a warm welcome home. You are such good friends; your well wishes always make my day. Being home again is an interesting experience, considering this has only been "home" for a little over a year now. What a feeling of "home" though. Oddly enough, knowing this place as home helped me feel more relaxed and happy visiting Los Angeles. The traffic jams did not annoy me in the least (and I drove in much traffic); the heat didn't get me down (in fact, it was cooler in LA than it was on the...

I call her "Rhoda"

I used to say this flower was a rhododendron. I created an oil painting of one of the blossoms and titled the painting "Rhododendron" because that is what I thought she was (I have since renamed the painting to avoid confusion.). One morning last spring I went out to the street to bring in the newspaper and something on the right of our garage caught my eye. Large pink ... no, huge pink flowers where there had been no flowers. I remember gasping, literally. I ran inside and got my camera to capture the phenomenon for proof or reference material...

Buttoned up

I enjoy shopping for buttons, picking out special buttons for a particular project. I especially enjoy shopping for buttons now because it consists of grabbing a cup of tea and heading to the comfy sofa in our sitting room to sort through my treasure bowls and tins of vintage buttons (graciously gifted to me by Dorothy and Winnie, friends of ours at church). There is a small oil painting I recently created of one of the vintage buttons in the photo above up for auction at eBay. Take a look, if only to see the painting and see if you...
