Free Knitting Pattern Two-Night Cowl Easy Quick Knit in 2 Nights

This listing is for a free DIGITAL DOWNLOAD of a knitting pattern -- it is the pattern only, not a finished item.

This knitting pattern is for a close-fitting, twisted cowl that may be knit in two evenings, thus the name “Two-Night Cowl”. The ribbed, twist-stitch faux cable stitch pattern creates a two-sided fabric that looks great on both sides.

You will need any bulky weight yarn (gauge of 3 stitches to the inch on size U.S. 10.5 needles) in two colors, a main color and then a contrasting accent color for the edges. Optionally, you might want to sew a nice big button on the cowl … I like the way it looks with a button detail.

I used Valley Yarns “Northampton Bulky” from yarn.com, a 100% wool bulky weight yarn. This yarn is a bit scratchy so I don’t recommend it and would definitely choose a softer yarn if I was going to knit this cowl again. I love MadelineTosh Bulky yarn, or Montera by Classic Elite Yarns (if it is still being made).

I used 100 yards for the main color (Stone Blue), and just a small amount (less than 10 yards) for the contrasting accent color (Old Barn Red).

This cowl is knit in the round and measures 18” in width before being twisted. I give instructions for sizes Adult Small, Medium, and Large. If you want to make your cowl even larger, increase the stitch count by multiples of 4 stitches. Both sides of the fabric are attractive, so extra twists in a larger cowl would look great.

Super easy and fun to knit, a great hand knit gift idea.
