And I've got ... cozy toes

My daughter gave me two skeins of incredibly soft chunky baby alpaca yarn at Christmas so I could make myself some warm, cozy house socks. I designed a simple pattern for the socks, and just finished the second one this morning. Now, I've got Cozy Toes! The leg of the socks is 11" long, and yet I still had a small handful of yarn left over from each skein. These socks are easy to knit up very quickly, even for a beginning sock knitter. I believe if you had a weekend to yourself (starting when you get home Friday after...

At times I have wondered what (if anything) I may share with my readers about what happened last year on Valentine's Day. For those of you who have followed my blog, you would know last Valentine's Day was the first for my husband and I. We weren't even "dating" the Valentine's Day before that, and yet found ourselves married by the first time we had a Valentine's Day to share. "Why are you making me sit here in the snow without any underwear on?" I am telepathic, and those were Blu's exact words. Anything for a photo op. That is the price he pays for being the top dog here at our farm. Membership does, however, have its benefits: my father and mother gifted Blu with this handsome coat recently. He has been wearing it every time I let him outside to take care of business or just for a romp in the snow. At first he had to get used to it, but after he tried it a few...

Not long ago, one morning, I found myself standing in our kitchen looking out at our snow covered lawn across the street to our frozen river, it too covered with a gathering snow. I stood there in contemplation for a little while, considering my life as it is today and of course, the words came to me again, "I live on a farm." Those words, that thought, may seem of little significance to others. For me, they represent a something quite large and of great significance for which I will continue to feel and express gratitude ... over, and over,...

Preparation for snowmen

A week or two ago my mother passed along an email to me featuring a photo of some "snowballs" that strewn all across a snow covered field. I think the caption was something along the lines of the snow balls having been made by God. You could see tracks in the snow, where the balls of snow had rolled along and grown in size with the wind pushing them along. I had never heard of or seen spontaneous snow balls like that before. This week it has been quite cold here, with a couple of all-day snow showers. One morning...
