It's cool being a bug

I have been a bug now for a little over one year, and I have to say ... it is cool being a bug. Bugs used to creep me out. Okay, bugs still creep me out to a large degree. However, when I became a bug I was fortunate enough to become one that has never creeped me out in the least and one which, in fact, only conjurs up magic in my heart and imagination. Therefore, I do not creep myself out and I have made some very good friends, friends who rather seem to enjoy addressing me by...

You're a good boy, Blu

It is very much like having a child, this thing of raising a puppy. He is a good, good boy and sometimes he does mischief and he always keeps us on our toes. Back in July we put in an electric fence for him so that he can have full freedom out in the yard. It has been up to me to do the bulk of the training he needs so that he respects the boundaries set by the electric fence, simply because I work from home and am available to train him. We were doing pretty well with it...

We are having exceptionally cool days, even though it is late August. It is cool enough during the day I find myself reaching for sweaters and jackets. Not that I'm complaining ... The first weekend of the art show at The Winery at Marjim Manor went very well. The weather was gorgeous, and the time spent at the Manor was both highly aesthetic and relaxing. There is something about that little section of western New York that I absolutely love. Up the road from the Manor is a little ice cream stand on a neighbor's farm where I love to...

Annual Pig Roast

I am a vegetarian; I have been for many years. I stopped eating red meat on my eighteenth birthday, and stopped eating other meats one-by-one over a short period of time after that. For years I ate salad bars when I went out to dinner, to a point of getting very, very tired of salad bars. It used to be difficult for me to come up with healthy forms of protien that I enjoyed eating, but today I can find a delicious variety of soy choices both at the grocery store and often at restaurants. This week is my birthday...

Magic moments of light

4th of July blogging country living dating dogs faith family food free knitting patterns gifts knitting love marriage pets photography relationships romance scarf patterns summer yarn

In my photography and painting, it is the magic of light and shadow I love most and hope most to capture and communicate. When I look at life outside our livingroom window, or driving down a country road, or as I wait on the bank of the river by our cottage while my husband mows the lawn, I see bits and pieces of light at times that cause me to catch my breath because in those fleeting moments of perfect light I see God. In Western New York I find many magic moments of light in my mornings and evenings....
