It is very much like having a child, this thing of raising a puppy. He is a good, good boy and sometimes he does mischief and he always keeps us on our toes. Back in July we put in an electric fence for him so that he can have full freedom out in the yard. It has been up to me to do the bulk of the training he needs so that he respects the boundaries set by the electric fence, simply because I work from home and am available to train him. We are having exceptionally cool days, even though it is late August. It is cool enough during the day I find myself reaching for sweaters and jackets. Not that I'm complaining ... I am a vegetarian; I have been for many years. I stopped eating red meat on my eighteenth birthday, and stopped eating other meats one-by-one over a short period of time after that. For years I ate salad bars when I went out to dinner, to a point of getting very, very tired of salad bars. In my photography and painting, it is the magic of light and shadow I love most and hope most to capture and communicate. When I look at life outside our livingroom window, or driving down a country road, or as I wait on the bank of the river by our cottage while my husband mows the lawn, I see bits and pieces of light at times that cause me to catch my breath because in those fleeting moments of perfect light I see God.
