A few days ago I got out on the tractor and helped my husband mow our three acres of lawn; it was my first time getting back on the tractor since last summer. Side Bar: This is my third summer on the farm, somewhat hard to believe. The farmer who rents our arable (–adjective "1. capable of producing crops; suitable for farming; suited to the plow and for tillage: arable land; arable soil" ~dictionary.com) land planted winter wheat last autumn. The fields look much different with wheat growing in them than they did with corn, much of the difference is...

The Yin Yang of Spring

Yin Yang. That's what we named Cat Cat's two kittens because there are just the two of them and they cuddle together in a perfect yin yang. Yin is the darker kitten, Yang the one with more white on his/her body. They are still very young but have just this week begun to take tiny wobbling little steps. Mostly they spend their time sleeping or nursing and almost always cuddling with each other and their sweet mother, Cat Cat....

Yesterday afternoon we drove down toward Buffalo for a family visit, enjoying a lazy driving chat and some quiet moments of reflections along the way. We passed by many, many fields of rusty-golden corn and yellow soy beans. I asked my husband if it is my imagination or are there significantly more corn fields this year than last. He affirmed there are indeed many more corn fields this year. Last year, if you recall, we had corn growing in our fields and tracked their growth and beauty in photographs and descriptions. This year our fields are empty, though the farmer...

Last September I wrote about spending September 11th down by our cottage, out in our row boat on the river ("This will be our tradition", posted 12 Sept 2006). At that time, I shared the peace and beauty of our sweet river in description and photos. This summer has been so busy, we didn't get out on the river in the boat until just this past weekend. Sunday afternoon my daughter and I went out in a funny little paddle boat for a while; it was her first time on the river, and she fell in love with it just...

It's cool being a bug

I have been a bug now for a little over one year, and I have to say ... it is cool being a bug. Bugs used to creep me out. Okay, bugs still creep me out to a large degree. However, when I became a bug I was fortunate enough to become one that has never creeped me out in the least and one which, in fact, only conjurs up magic in my heart and imagination. Therefore, I do not creep myself out and I have made some very good friends, friends who rather seem to enjoy addressing me by...
